GRAND 55TH FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATION AT ICSK


The Indian Community School, Kuwait celebrated, in great splendour, the 55th Foundation Day on 23rd May, 2013 at the Khaitan branch. H.E. Shri Satish C. Mehta, the Ambassador of India to Kuwait was the chief guest and Mr. Essa Abdul Rahman Al Essa, the sponsor of the school who is also the former Ambassador of Kuwait to India, was the guest of honour for the event. Mr. Ashok Kalra, Honorary Chairman, Mr. Rajan Daniel, Honorary Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vijay Karayil, Honorary Secretary, Dr. Kamlesh Kumari, Honorary Joint Secretary, members of the Board of Trustees, Council of Elders, members of the AISES and the Parent Advisory Council, Principals and Vice-Principals of all branches of the ICSK, staff, parents and students graced the occasion. Other dignitaries from the Indian community in Kuwait including Mr. Ravi Kohli, the grandson of Mr. U. C. Kohli, the founder of this great institution were also present for the occasion . The guests were accorded a warm welcome by the students of ICSK Khaitan who were dressed in Indian ethnic costumes for the ceremony.



The Indian Community School was founded on 5th May, 1959, with only 22 students. It was the initiative of 9 Indians who realized the need of a school for the Indian children in Kuwait. The ICSK was the first Indian school in Kuwait. Growing from strength to strength, the school now has nearly 6500 students across 4 branches in Kuwait. The ICSK boasts of a glorious past and promises a great future as the management works tirelessly to deliver the best in education to Indian students in Kuwait. The foundation day is celebrated each year to pay tribute to the founders of the ICSK and also to reflect on the achievements of the school.




H.E. Shri Satish C. Mehta inaugurated the foundation day function by lighting the ceremonial lamp while the school choir sang the welcome song Swagatham Shubha Swagatham. This was followed by a group dance "Entoru Mahanubhavulu" which rightfully paid tribute to the nine founding fathers of the school.




In his address H.E. Shri Satish C Mehta said that the ICSK was founded with the mission of paying back to the society and we all must remember that objective. Mr. Essa Al Essa spoke about his experiences as Ambassador in India and spoke with love and nostalgia about our motherland, India. Mr. Vijay Karayil, Honorary Secretary to the ICSK Board of Trustees, spoke about the achievements of the school in all the fields like academics, sports and co-curricular and indicated that the work of building the institution is still going on. Mr. Ashok Kalra delivered the Presidential Address highlighting the accomplishments of this pioneering institution which has been the guiding light to thousands of children.




The highlight of the day was the felicitation of Dr. Sam T Kuruvilla, Vice- Principal, for his dedicated and meritorious service to the school.A cultural bonanza followed in which all the highly talented students of the 4 branches of the ICSK displayed their multifarious talents. The boys of Salmiya Senior branch presented the Magical Hands and Sugar Beats two highly captivating items depicting the dexterity of their hands. Two folk dances and a group dance "Asathoma Sadgamaya" from the Junior branch, a dance drama "Enough is Enough" on the contemporary issue about the atrocities committed on women enacted by the Khaitan branch and "The Journey" a lovely skit, about the school by the Amman St. branch enthralled the audience.




The Principal Mr. K.G. Shirsath, the convener of the event, proposed the vote of thanks.




The 55th Foundation Day celebration was spectacular and left everyone spell bound. The ambience at the Khaitan branch added to the joie de vivre.
