"We have talked about it often. The time to do something concrete is now and no other day better than this day". Mr U.C Kohli spelt out his plans at a gathering to celebrate the Independence Day of India. He unveiled his plans of starting a school for the Indians in Kuwait. Mr Kohli along with Mr Sharma, Mr Sethi and Mr Varghese had done the homework.History Image Faith, dedication and unlimited enthusiasm coerced them to pursue their dream of setting up the school. The original plan envisioned a school of fifty to a maximum of one hundred fifty students gradually.A reasonable amount of rupees collected and promises from several others made them move a step ahead in realizing their dream.
A building in Nugra for a monthly rent of little over 500 rupees, furniture from other similar institutions and voluntary services by Mrs. Sethi as Headmistress made up the basics of the school. The Indian School Kuwait (ISK) was the very first foreign institution to be established in the State of Kuwait and was inaugurated by the then Minister of Education. The golden key of the school is displayed at the Kuwait Museum.
1959
ISK started on 5th May 1959 at Nugra with just twenty two students. It then shifted to Hawally in 1960 and later on to Istiqlal Street. In May 1969, ten years later, ISK opened its first branch at Mangaf-Fahaheel with five teachers and about seventy students in classes KG to STD III. This was of great benefit to those who lived in the Fahaheel and Ahmadi areas.
ISK by then had a total of 39 classrooms and around one hundred teachers working in two shifts. In 1970 the ISK shifted to it new building in Salmiya. In March 1972, the first batch of students appeared for the All India Higher Secondary Examination.In 1974, the school occupied the second building in Salmiya.In 1975, the ISK adopted the national pattern of education i.e. 10 + 2 + 3.In 1976, the school started the afternoon shift.In 1977, the last batch of students answered the All India Higher Secondary Examination and in the same year the first batch of 10 + 2 appeared for the AISS Exam.
Thousands of students have graduated from ISK who now occupy positions of eminence in different walks of life. The name 'Indian School Kuwait' was changed to 'Indian Community School Kuwait'. The school now has four branches, three in Salmiya and one in Khaitan with a collective strength of more than six thousand students. It has grown to its present stature, thanks to the tireless efforts of the founders, dynamic leadership of the management, generous support of the parent community and dedication of the staff members.
2012 The ICSK management and staff, in their efforts to bring about a new chapter in the school's history and to develop the school system and infrastructure to a higher rung and to bring about an effective functioning of the academic year plan coupled with an aim to achieve top-rate results at the AISSCE & AISSE level examinations, decided upon merging the senior secondary classes of XI & XII. Accordingly, the same was initiated and the senior secondary wings of the Khaitan and Amman branch of the school merged at the ICSK Senior. It was a successful move at centralizing the senior secondary levels and brought together the expert panel of faculty members.
The ICSK has commenced its functioning in this year with a new and energetic team of the Board of Trustees headed by Hon. Chairman Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahiman, Hon. Secretary Mr. Amer Mohd, Hon. Treasurer Mr. S.N. Raju, Hon. Vice Chairman Mr. Vinukumar Nair, Hon. Jt. Secretary Mr. Agnello Fernandes. Since then, the school has left a hallmark in education in Kuwait with the introduction of innovative educational infrastructures such as e-library which is a 5000 strong book house, salient career oriented events such as career talks by experts and the Higher Education Fairs, integrated school learning such as ACCA for students of class X to XII. They place their belief in the fact that innovation and novel ideas are the key to a bright future. It gives them great satisfaction that the school progresses towards the overall development and person of the students, and leave no stone overturned in ensuring that the right platforms are created for the achievemtn of the same.
In this age of competition the world settings is shifting with promptness and the education system is no doubt a foremost part of this shift. As we all know that education is a tool which alone can instill national and cultural standards among the younger generations. In order to expand the social aspect of our country it is very imperative to educate our younger generations. We are proud to announce that the Indian Community School Kuwait, stands as a yardstick for the unsurpassed school in the country as it propagates an environment conducive to learning.
Education refers to the intellectual and moral exercise that systematically enlarges the spheres of knowledge, develops character as well as mental faculties and evolves a definite pattern on relationship between an individual and a society. ICSK provides quality education which will help students to maintain their goodwill in the society in the future as well. We believe that education that can contribute towards the development of the whole society and nation is true education that can be provided to an individual. Thus, along with the social, economic and democratic ideas our school also tries to develop moral sense among the children, so that they may be able to distinguish between right and wrong whenever needed.
