Salmiya, Sept 12: Known for its focus on extracurricular and philanthropic activities, the Indian Community School Kuwait (ICSK) Senior campus has once again demonstrated its commitment to social welfare under the able leadership of its principal, Dr. V. Binumon. The school recently organized a charity drive titled “SEWA – Journey to a Labour Camp” aimed at supporting poor labourers living in challenging conditions in labour camps.
The initiative was led by Mr. George Swamy, the school charity convenor and head of the Computer Science department, who successfully oversaw the collection and distribution of 300 packets of essential food items to workers from a local cleaning company. The provisions, which included rice, dal, sugar, oil, and tea bags, were donated by more than 50% of the student body. Under Mr. Swamy’s guidance, selected students personally delivered the food packets to the camp and were deeply moved by the gratitude of the workers. Many students expressed that witnessing the struggles of the workers made them count their blessings and appreciate the importance of giving back to the community.
In addition to the charity drive, the school held a special assembly on September 12, inviting four cancer patients to the campus. During the event, a KWD 150 cash donation, collected from students' charity boxes, was given to support their treatment.
Principal Dr. V. Binumon congratulated the students for their compassionate efforts and highlighted the significance of humanitarian initiatives in shaping responsible citizens. He noted that the students’ contributions were a reflection of their empathy and sense of social responsibility.
The school’s charity initiatives continue to inspire and make a positive impact on both the contributors and the beneficiaries, reinforcing ICSK Senior’s reputation as a leader in philanthropy and student development.
