ICSK AFTERNOON WING CELEBRATES ONAM WITH CULTURAL GRANDEUR AND SCHOLARLY PRIDE

The Indian Community School, Kuwait (Afternoon Wing) came alive with festive fervor on Wednesday as Classes 10G and 11J presented a spectacular combined general assembly celebrating Onam, the much-loved harvest festival of Kerala. The occasion was marked by meticulous planning, cultural vibrancy, and an infectious enthusiasm that resonated throughout the school hall.
The stage was transformed into a colorful tribute to Kerala, adorned with traditional floral motifs, lamps, and decorations that instantly transported the audience into the heart of the festival. Students looked resplendent in traditional Kerala attire, reflecting the elegance and simplicity of their heritage while adding an authentic festive charm to the proceedings.
As with all general assemblies, the program began with solemn prayers, flag hoisting, and school rituals including the word of the day, thought of the day, and the school pledge, setting a disciplined yet celebratory tone. The cultural segment then unfolded with a melodious Onam song, which echoed the joy and unity of the season. This was followed by a graceful Thiruvathirakkali, the traditional dance performed around a lamp by women, symbolizing devotion, harmony, and the communal spirit of Onam. The rhythm, synchronized movements, and elegance of the dancers drew appreciative applause from students and teachers alike.
Adding to the festive splendor, a lively dance performance themed ‘Spirit of Onam’ captivated the audience, blending energy, coordination, and creativity while honoring Kerala’s rich traditions. The assembly beautifully balanced cultural celebration with inspiration, as Deputy Vice Principal Ms. Mini Shaji Joseph addressed the gathering, commending the students for their dedication, imagination, and commitment to preserving cultural heritage. A student, dressed as King Mahabali, the legendary ruler of erstwhile Kerala, elevated the celebration to a feverish pitch by greeting the young subjects in grand style.
Highlighting scholastic achievements alongside the cultural festivities, Vice Principal Ms. Susan Rajesh conferred the Best Scholar Awards on students who had excelled in the first mid-term examinations held in May, offering well-deserved recognition for their outstanding academic performance across the afternoon wing. The accolades were met with enthusiastic applause, inspiring peers to strive for excellence in both academics and co-curricular pursuits.
The assembly concluded on a patriotic note with the national anthem, leaving the audience enriched by a harmonious blend of culture, celebration, and scholastic pride - a truly memorable start to the new academic term.
